A cell phone ticket will destroy your insurance!
Are you aware of the changes that have happened with regards to auto insurance?
As of January 1, a cell phone ticket in Ontario will carry a 3 - day licence suspension and $1000 fine.
If you receive this conviction it will be seen as a Major Conviction (minimum surcharge of $350) plus a ratable licence suspension (minimum surcharge of $150) and a guaranteed non-renewal/cancellation of your auto policy.
The reason for this is that insurance companies do not want to insure drivers who text and drive as they are at a higher risk of fatal accident. Insurance companies are even considering denying (or raising the cost of) auto insurance renewal for those with a prior "text and drive" convictions.
If you have this ticket currently on your record then you may be seen as a high risk driver and insurance companies/brokers may put you in a high risk market come your renewal.
This applies to all convictions and licence suspensions within the last three years, earlier convictions are not ratable.
